I derive a great deal of pleasure writing about my imaginary friends in the wonderful land of Narnia. Yet as much as I love Buck and Bramble, nothing compares with the joy of seeing God's wonderful creatures in real life, and that greatest gift of all, to reach out and touch them. As an animal welfare advocate, I have had that rare privilege.

Not everyone can or should handle these creatures. It is a specialized task with a lot of educational and emotional demands. Yet everyone should feel the warm glow of making our world a little more humane through our gifts and our time. And this world of ours needs both of them urgently.
